CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF IMPACT
To celebrate our 30th anniversary, we’ve created this space to share stories, treasured milestones, memories, photos and more from our work over the past three decades. We’ll be celebrating throughout the summer of 2024, with a culminating event this September! You’re invited to join us, and we’ll let you know how you can be a part of our incredible story.
Our Journey
Let's Celebrate!
We hope you'll be able to join us during one of our special events this year as we celebrate 30 years of building affordable homes and making affordable home repairs for the people of Appalachian East Kentucky.
Home Dedication: 100th Flood Survivor Served!
JUNE 5, 2024 - 4 p.m.: Join us as we host a special Home Dedication Ceremony for Melissa Neace and her two daughters! Melissa lost her home in Breathitt County during the 2022 East Kentucky flood. As Melissa receives the keys to a new home in the Blue Sky subdivision, we'll be marking a momentous milestone: having served 100 flood survivors in less than 2 years since the historic disaster.
3 for 30: DreamBuilders Blitz Build
JUNE 17-21, 2024: DreamBuilders Maryland join us again this year for the Ultimate House Raising Challenge! Last year, this amazing group of volunteers framed 2 new homes in 4 days, and this year, they will help our carpenters frame 3 homes in less than a full week! What a spectacle this will be (catch all the action on Facebook) and perfect for our 30th anniversary of providing affordable new homes for our community.
Highland Avenue: High Ground Site Groundbreaking
Coming in June/July 2024: Gov. Beshear will unveil the first high-ground community site in Breathitt County! Located on land in the heart of Jackson, the state has plans to help fund the construction of 8 or more homes for flood survivors in this area. There is the option for more acreage to become available, as well. Join us for this special groundbreaking as HDA celebrates with the community and prepares to build on the site in the months to come.
Homecoming: Celebrating Hope Building's Lindsey King
Coming in July 2024: If you don't know the inspiring story of Lindsey King, you'll want to follow our coverage of this event! Lindsey started out as an apprentice carpenter in Hope Building, our paid on-the-job training program in residential construction for men and women in substance use recovery. Lindsey was so impressive as a trainee that she worked her way up to becoming the assistant trainer in our program! Now, we'll get to see her move into her own new home.
Heartstrings: Home Repairs for Those In Need
Coming in July 2024: Come pitch in and help us repair 3 homes for very low-income homeowners in need! Local volunteers are needed as we repair a home in each of our hardest hit flood-affected counties: Breathitt, Knott, and Perry. At the guidance of our experienced carpenters, you'll help us make repairs for folks who may not receive the help otherwise. An excellent way to improve your community & the lives of your neighbors!
On Higher Ground: Celebrating Peach Tree Lane
Coming in August 2024: We can't wait to celebrate the completion of this new 7-home community for flood survivors in Breathitt County! On this special day, we'll be welcoming Earl to his new home, along with all of his new neighbors. A true testament to not only building homes but building community too, Peach Tree Lane is a neighborhood of folks who have grown to look out for each other in homes located outside of the floodplain.
Making Groundbreaking Magic: Chestnut Ridge Kickoff
Coming This Fall: We're getting started on the first of 17 new homes in Knott County! Come by to watch the work or even jump in to swing a hammer alongside our carpenters. Other builders will also be onsite as this large and amazing project gets underway. We'll hope to have members of state and local government at the event as well as other special guests. Many more details are forthcoming, so please check back for updates.
30 More: Celebrating 3 Decades of Service to Our Community
This September: The year's culminating event! We'll bring you photos and videos from this very special day when HDA founders, staff, volunteers, donors, funders & more come together to celebrate our achievements and growth over the last 30 years. A family-friendly event for all those within the HDA fold, this is a time to reminisce, recognize individuals and groups for their dedication to HDA, and reimagine what's to come as we build a brighter future for our community.
